Anbaric Increases Commitment to New York to Accelerate Development of a Planned Offshore Wind Transmission System to Reach the State’s Goals
Wakefield, MA – Anbaric is proud to announce Kevin Knobloch joined the company as President of the New York OceanGrid, where he will lead the development of a planned and shared offshore wind transmission system. Kevin brings a wealth of experience within the environmental and energy industry to this role, having served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Department of Energy to then-Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz from 2013 to 2017 and President of the Union of Concerned Scientists for ten years.
“Kevin’s addition to the team reaffirms Anbaric’s commitment to pioneering a clean energy future for New York. Anbaric is committed to delivering results for New York, and Kevin’s wealth of experience and industry knowledge has already made him invaluable in developing our New York OceanGrid to advance the State’s offshore wind goals,” said Edward Krapels, CEO of Anbaric.
“There is no one better suited than Kevin to develop Anbaric’s New York OceanGrid, which will help reach New York’s clean energy goals on time, efficiently, and at lower costs. Kevin has experience not only in New York, having served as a legislative aide with Congressman Ted Weiss of New York City earlier in his career, but he also possesses an unmatched understanding of energy, economic and environmental policy from his time at the U.S. Department of Energy and the Union of Concerned Scientists,” said Clarke Bruno of Anbaric.
“There is, appropriately, a sense of great urgency among leaders in New York to deploy clean energy as quickly as possible. The development of a planned, open-access offshore wind transmission system is key to accelerating New York’s deployment of offshore wind and achieving the state’s clean energy goals, and Anbaric is uniquely positioned to deliver on that,” said Kevin Knobloch, President, New York OceanGrid, Anbaric.
Anbaric’s New York OceanGrid would connect the 2,400-MW of offshore wind energy proposed by Governor Cuomo to the on-shore grid through offshore collector platforms and cables buried underwater and underground. By developing thoughtfully planned transmission infrastructure, Anbaric’s New York OceanGrid allows the State to achieve goals faster, create competition, and lower costs to provide a source of clean energy to consumers.
Recent events have increased awareness and proven the importance of planned transmission infrastructure, such as Anbaric’s proposed New York OceanGrid, to advance offshore wind in New York. Anbaric is a member of the newly formed National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium led by NYSERDA, which received an $18.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to determine the best approach and technologies, including transmission, required to create a thriving offshore wind industry in the U.S. In addition, leading stakeholders submitted comments to the New York State Public Service Commission encouraging regulators to further evaluate the crucial role of thoughtful offshore wind transmission.
