Massachusetts Climate Law Enables Development of Transmission to Scale Offshore Wind

Wakefield, Massachusetts—Governor Charlie Baker today signed into law An Act driving clean energy and offshore wind, which enables the Commonwealth to develop transmission infrastructure to integrate offshore wind and other sources of renewable energy needed to achieve decarbonization goals.  The law authorizes Massachusetts’ Department of Energy Resources to collaborate with other New England States to procure transmission and seek federal funding made available through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“Massachusetts has the tools to develop an ocean grid that will reduce impacts on fisheries and the environment and save money,” said Anbaric CEO Clarke Bruno. “We commend the Legislature and Governor for their leadership and encourage Massachusetts to act quickly to secure limited federal funds and address transmission bottlenecks that threaten to slow the growth of offshore wind in Massachusetts.”
