Wakefield, MA — Feb. 6, 2020 —The Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy took an important step forward toward securing a renewable energy future by reporting out favorably Bill H.2814 — An Act relative to transmission for offshore wind energy. The bill calls for the Department of Energy Resources to bid planned transmission systems for offshore wind separately from wind-energy generation, setting the stage for shared transmission infrastructure that will maximize our ocean resources. Planned transmission promises to scale the Massachusetts offshore wind industry while offering a sensible approach to minimize impacts on the ocean and shoreline communities.
“Well planned and competitively procured transmission is critical to achieving the Commonwealth’s offshore wind potential while minimizing costs and impacts on the environment and fisheries,” said Steve Conant, Partner and Project Manager for Anbaric. “We particularly appreciate the leadership and support from Representative Haddad and Senator Rodrigues as this bill positions the South Coast to play an important role in the future of the offshore wind industry.”
